Information on Hearing Aid Batteries

To help you remember your battery size, the hearing aid battery industry standardized battery sizes with the following colour code:
Orange Tab Size 13
Brown Tab
Size 312
Yellow Tab Size 10
Blue Tab Size 675

Quote either the number or the colour code when ordering your battery. The colour code appears both on the packaging of the battery and on the sticky tab on the back of the battery. This tab is placed on zinc-air battery. To activate the battery pull off the tab. The battery works by mixing zinc with the outside air. Once the tab has been taken off a battery, the hearing aid battery becomes active and will continue to stay active. The battery cannot be "deactivated" by placing the tab back on the battery.

How long will the battery last before I have to change it?

The battery drain - how fast the hearing aid use up the battery depends on the type and setting of your hearing aid, batteries quality, listening environment, duration of usage, etc.
Digital hearing aids tend to consume more battery than analog hearing aids. This is due to the many digital signal processes that the digital hearing aids have to perform.
Typically, battery life can range anywhere from 5 days to 21 days.

As part of the daily checking routine, your hearing aid battery should be checked with a battery tester. It is a good practice to place the battery tab on the date when you change a new battery. This will help you to monitor the life span of your battery until the next time you change your battery again. After a while you will know how long your hearing aids need to change the batteries.

If you're experiencing a shorter battery life than usual, the hearing aid may not be working properly, and should be checked by your audiologists and/or technicians. The aid can be put through a hearing aid analyzer to measure the battery drain. If the hearing aid is not performing to specifications, your hearing aid may need to be sent for repair.
