| Art |
Art education imbues each child with
the experience type of development that gives him the chance
to express his feelings and perception.
In the second semester of each school year, our children concentrated
on using oil pastels to express themes and topics. through
this
medium, they learn to differentiate touch subtleties of hue
and pigment. Within the one-hour lesson, shapes take form resulting
in a creative composition unique to each child. Hence, it becomes
a weekly artistic outlet for every child. Practice plus talent-spotting
gives the school and the child the preparation needed
to participate in future competitions. From the selected winners
of National Day Celebrations to designing the cover of CSH
(Canossian School) Swimming Carnival Programme, every pupil
learns to be observant in detail. He/She endeavors to bring
each work of art to a visual conclusion in terms of his/her
own art.
Besides concentrating on using a wide range of tone and colour
in oil pastels, other mixed media have been used. The graduating
class learns to use artist quality brushes for painting.
It is a worthwhile process to see each pupil as he marvels at
the wide artistic horizon open before him. Vistas of opportunity
delights the pupils as camaraderie develop from spontaneous
critique and appreciation of each other's work of art.
As Singapore strives to become a Renaissance City, it is then
imperative that every pupil at Canossian School
gets the privilege of exploring the visual art exposure fruitfully. |

| Music |
Music plays an important part in
the school curriculum. Pupils in Pre-School are exposed to
daily singing. Primary 1 and Primary
2 pupils have formal music lessons once a week in addition
to daily singing. This has helped
to enhance the pupils'
spoken
language
and
listening
skills.
Another group of selected pupils who attend band practice conducted
by the music instructor are being trained to perform in the
School Percussion
Band. |
